Day 22: Casidona | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Casinoda was created by CZT Theresa Fessler.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Relax

I was reflecting on the amazing words from Bijou while doing this tangle. Bijouism No, 24 is Relax. Bijou says, “I love how my tangles look when I’m relaxed. I can tell by looking at my tangles when it’s time to curl up in my shell and take a nap.”

Casinoda looked like a handful of a tangle until I took a deep breath, relaxed and followed the steps. I encourage you to take extra steps to relax the next time you tangle. Maybe you have the death grip on the pen, or maybe your shoulders tense up. Take several moment, on purpose, during your next tangling session and see what kind of difference it makes.

These prompts are for taking yourself to your next level, whatever that may be.

Some tanglers like to challenge themselves to do a tangle a day and collect them by the month. There are many ways to do this. If you would like to create one large piece from this monthly collection, HERE are some neat template ideas. You can probably enlarge them and print them OR trace them, OR maybe it sparks another idea!

Day 21: Maggie May | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Maggie May was created by CZT Dolly Bolen.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Without Pre-Plannng.

This is from page 25 in The Book of Zentangle by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, founders of Zentangle. “Let your creation unfold without pre-planning or expectations. You automatically know what to do at each step. Enjoy the process.”

This section of the book talks about guidelines for Zentangle. As I was recording the video below, it struck me that because of the design of this tangle, one may want to use guides to divide the paper. I understand why some like to do this. My prompt and note of encouragement is to give it a try, even if it’s just once. Maybe it could grow to – once in a while, To just do a tangle, like this, without pre-planning, throw caution to the wind and let come what may.

These prompts are for taking yourself to your next level, whatever that may be.

Gilgo was created by CZT Danielle DePalma-Mabanta.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: The Flip.

Periodically, we will see or use this technique, I am calling, The Flip. The first time I saw it was in the tangle, Icanthis by Zentangle. It’s also in Toodles and others, including this tangle, Gilgo. Use it any time, you want to add an interesting flip, to any tangle.

Day 19: Bunzo | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Bunzo was created by Zentangle®.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Deliberate Strokes.

In the video for Bunzo, below, I talk about the difference between doodling and Zentangle. It has a lot to do with the fact that in Zentangle, we make deliberate strokes. Oh it might look like we are doodling to other people, they don’t realize we do everything with intention and deliberateness. As you tangle, think about the deliberateness of each stroke, as you decide where to put it and how you do it.

Here is what Bijou has to say about Deliberate Strokes, “When humans watch snails, it must look like every movement we make is deliberate. But when I’m tangling I move much more deliberately than, say, when I am foraging for food. Doing a tangle, particularly one that I know well, allows me to focus on each individual stroke. That’s because I know that when the next stroke comes, I’ll know just what to do then because I’ve learned that tangle’s “recipe.” Plus, a snail always leaves a trail . . . why not make it a deliberate one?

Day 18: Halofoil | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Halofoil was created by CZT Ildica Boyd.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Trust

In my preparation for our TangleTime sessions today, I found myself a bit apprehensive with this tangle. The mantra I had to pull up was Trust. Trust the process. Trust the steps. Trust that there are no mistakes. So I thought this to be a perfect prompt. I hope that you will use this the next time you run up against a tangle that you will run a similar mantra in your head.

Here is what Bijou has to say about Trust, “This is big for me. Since learning the Zentangle method of drawing, I never worry about needing to know what I’m going to draw (or do) next. I’ve realized that once I’m in a new place, I can trust that I’ll know what to do, where to go, what to draw once I get there. No worries. I love it!”

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Shine

Adding Shine is similar to adding Sparkle. Leave a gap in a larger filled in area to create what looks like a shine. Watch the video below.

Day 16: Pualink | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Pualink was created by Debbi Minero.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Admire

This is perfect for ‘Tough’ Tangle Tuesday. Bijou explains, “Before I started to tangle, I never looked at the patterns I made as I moved through life. Now I always take a moment to appreciate the beautiful art I create whenever I take time to tangle. I appreciate everything, even what Hervé (my pen pal in Paris) might think is a mistake. I’ve become my own best fan! Whenever he can, Rick will take a picture of my Zentangle art so I can enjoy it later . . . even after a rain storm!”

When you are frustrated with your work, I encourage… actually, I double dog dare you to find one thing you like about what you have done. OR, something that worked well, OR that you improved upon. Just one thing – then build from that.

Tofube was created by CZT Damy Teng.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Slow Down

I always find things work better when I Slow Down. Bijou agrees: “You’d think that would be easy for a snail, right? But, as they say, “It’s all relative.” Even I can get ahead of myself in my head. When I’m learning a new tangle or when I make little dots (that’s not easy for a snail!), I remind myself to slow down. Then I can focus and everything is much more fun. Snails like fun. Our life is a dance.

Dilly Daly was created by CZT Kathy Cody.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Embellish

Dilly-Daly is such a neat tangle. It offers a lot of ways to embellish it. Have fun! Maybe something that you have admired but not tried. Here is what Bijou has to say about Embellishing, “Relish the embellish! That’s my slogan. I love putting an aura or two (or three) around a tangle. It’s one of my favorite things to do because I always know just what to do without thinking about it and I’m always happy with the result.”
