Inktober 2025 – TangleAddicts™ Style

Welcome to Inktober 2025 – TangleAddicts Style!!

Let’s start where we should… at the beginning. It’s good to understand the premise.

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. See Inktober Rules and Prompts for great information.

“Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent, the better.”
-inktober.com/rules

“The challenge is to see how much you can improve your art in a month, to be inspired, and to help inspire other artists to do the same.” -https://inktober.com/faq  (Sounds familiar!)

Now, for our TangleAddicts spin…

Reading information on the Inktober website, it was so inspiring as it aligns with a lot of the mindset that we have, like “No Right, No Wrong”, #idowhatiwant, etc.
Zentangle is about: not planning, being surprised at the outcomes, thwarting perfectionism, and genuinely enjoying the process as well as the outcome, and you doing you at the same time. The idea behind the TangleAddicts spin or style is to embody and be true to all of that and to the premise of Inktober, which in turn empowers you!

Here is how to play:

  1. Using the tangle of your choice, or from a tangle list, find a way to incorporate the prompt I share each day on my daily tangle post, into your work.
    1. How you interpret the prompt is up to you.
    2. Take it to your next level!
  2. Post it to your social media, email it, share it!
  3. Use #Inktober2025TA, InktoberTangles2025, #inktober2025 along with the other #s if you are following another list.
  4. Encourage and support others.

How you decide to collect your works for the month, is also up to you. Some use a sketchbook and make notes about the tangle. Some do the tangles on separate tiles and create a framed mosaic celebrating Inktober. Others, like to create one large string and do each day’s tangle in each space. Click HERE for some neat template ideas. You can probably enlarge them and print them OR trace them, OR maybe it sparks another idea!

Note: As Inktober also runs a more continuous challenge, you can do the same with Tangle Addicts. Follow the Daily Tangle posts and keep going!

Enjoy!!

Day 31: Bekkwheat | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Bekkwheat was created by Cyndi Knapp.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Inspire.

Brilliant words from Bijou: “Imagine the thought that I could inspire someone else to draw, when they absolutely knew they could not, no way, never, no how . . . even draw a straight line. Of course, you may never have to draw a straight line in the Zentangle Method, but I suppose you could if you wanted to. Sometimes, what I think is just a “so so” Zentangle creation, may awaken the artistry in another simply by just being there, at the right time. Imagine . . . me, Bijou, being (or should that be snailing?) an inspiration to someone else. C’est magnifique!”

So brilliant it inspired me to record a quick message for you.

These prompts are designed to help take you to your next level, whatever that may be.

Day 30: Narfello Hearts | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Narfello Hearts was created by CZT Lynn Mead.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Redefine the line

Redefine the line, is a tangling technique that uses additional pen strokes over an existing lin3, as seen in the tangles, ‘NZeppel and Betweed. I mention it and use it on this tangle.

Thank you, CZT Alyssa Herget for creating the graphic!!

Day 29: CDJoy | Inktober 2024 Tangles

CDJoy was created by YuRu Chen.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Ghost Tangling

Also called “pencil tangles”. They are tangles that are drawn with a pencil rather than a pen. Ghost tangles might appear as a reflection of a pen drawn tangle or they might stand alone as part of a composition. Give it a try!

Thank you, CZT Alyssa Herget for creating the graphic!!

Day 28: Flowder | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Flowder was created by CZT Hilde van Ginhoven.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: “It just doesn’t matter.”

If you attend our TangleTime sessions, you know who says this! Mom! This is another way of explaining the No Mistakes philosophy. It’s a great mantra to help us move along when something goes awry. As you are tangling, and your pen decides to take a left instead of a right, tell yourself “It just doesn’t matter” and keep going. Know that you can course correct later OR keep doing what your pen wants and see what happens.

These prompts are designed to help take you to your next level, whatever that may be.

Day 27: Worthwhile | Inktober 2024 Tangles

Worthwhile was created by CZT Nidhi Prakash.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Reflect

At the end of the video, as I shaded, I remembered the words from Bijou, on reflection, “While I tangle, I often pause and look around at where I’ve been . . . in other words, I look at the tangle I’ve drawn. That’s easy for me . . . I just twist around my eye stalks! I’ve seen humans do the same sorta thing when they hold their tile at arms’ length and rotate it this way and that (every now and then) while they are tangling.” Taking shading one step at a time, and then looking and reflecting on what was done, is the way I like to do it as it allows me to learn as I tangle.

These prompts are for taking yourself to your next level, whatever that may be. Please share your Comfort story in the comments. I can’t wait to read them!!

Day 26: 24711 | Inktober 2024 Tangles

24711 was created by CZT Debbie New.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Comfort

I have been so inspired by Bijou, reading his takes and philosophy on Zentangle. Here is what Bijou says about Comfort: “I find the very idea of “everything Zentangle” is . . . is a comfort to me, to my art and to my life in general. I am comforted in the fact that I no longer put myself down. Je suis un artiste, non? This has made me happy. And I use my Zentangle creations to make others happy: as gifts, surprises or RAZ’s (Random Acts of Zentangle) . . . so I guess you could say I comfort myself and I can also comfort others, without effort, time or anxiety. Ahh . . . Comfort and joy.”

These prompts are for taking yourself to your next level, whatever that may be. Please share your Comfort story in the comments. I can’t wait to read them!!

Ennies | Day 25: Inktober 2024 Tangles

Ennies is a Zentangle® Original Tangle.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Enjoy the Shade – The Shadow Box technique

“For a snail that’s a double entendre (I love using my French now and then). I love hanging out in the shade beneath the ferns. I also love shading my tangles. How do I do it? That’s a secret and a snail needs some secrets.” Bijou is so goofy! It’s no secret that shading is the magic in Zentangle! In today’s tangle, it creates the perfect set up for the Shadow Box Technique. This is when we have the illusion of amazing depth. As if we are looking into a box and the tangle is in side. Have fun with this!

Jessica’s Heart was created by Randi Jameson.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Stippling

Thank you, CZT Alyssa Herget, for creating this graphic!!

Stippling is a drawing technique that involves creating areas of light and shadow using small distinct dots. It’s really neat. I hope you will give it a try!

Bugz was created by CZT Danielle DeRome.

My version of the step-out is HERE. Head over THERE for more inspiration from the creator of the tangle.

Today’s Inktober prompt is: Be Goofy!!

I double dog dare you to do this! Inspired by today’s tangle, find a way to be goofy in your tangling. Maybe just something small, like a “Where’s Waldo” type thing. Life is short – let’s have as much fun as we can!
