Inktober 2026

Welcome to Inktober 2026! (Go to today’s tangle.)

Let’s start where we should… at the beginning. It’s good to understand the premise.

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. See Inktober Rules and Prompts for great information.

“Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent, the better.” –https://inktober.com/rules

“The challenge is to see how much you can improve your art in a month, to be inspired, and to help inspire other artists to do the same.” –https://inktober.com/faq (Sound familiar?!)

Zentangle is about:

  • Not planning.
  • Being surprised at the outcomes.
  • Thwarting perfectionism
  • Genuinely enjoying the process as well as the outcome, and you doing you at the same time.

Here is the TangleAddicts spin. Embody and be true to the premises of Zentangle and Inktober. For instance, push yourself in a new direction. If you like to pencil in your pattern first, try skipping that step. If something turns out different than what you wanted, find ways to go with it instead of just starting over. All of this will empower you and improve your skills.

How you decide to collect your works for the month, is also up to you. Some use a sketchbook and make notes about the tangle. Some do the tangles on separate tiles and create a framed mosaic celebrating Inktober. Others, like to create one large string and do each day’s tangle in each space. Click HERE for some neat template ideas. You can probably enlarge them and print them OR trace them, OR maybe it sparks another idea! On each of my Daily Tangle posts, there is a link to ideas for templates for putting these all on one large page. Click HERE to see them.

Note: As Inktober also runs a more continuous challenge, you can do the same with Tangle Addicts. Follow the Daily Tangle posts and keep going! That’s what I did starting in 2021 with the 100 day project. My goal was and is to share a different tangle every day until I run out of tangles or I’m mentally/physically unable to do so.

If you choose to challenge yourself, we want to hear about it and your outcomes! Comment here or in the Facebook group.
